Turn a Story Idea Into a Screenplay: New FilmPilot.ai Plans

A screenplay often starts as something much smaller: a premise, a paragraph, a character you cannot stop thinking about, or a situation that feels like it belongs on screen. Until now, FilmPilot.ai's main workflow began after the screenplay already existed. Our new idea-to-screenplay plans give creators another place to begin.

You can now bring FilmPilot.ai a story idea and receive exactly one generated screenplay file. You choose the project type, genre, target runtime, tone, characters, setting, and any optional direction that matters to the story. Higher plans can then use that generated screenplay as the basis for development, visual, pitch, and production materials.

The new workflow is available through FilmPilot.ai's Start With an Idea page, with current launch pricing and package details on the pricing page.

Who the idea-to-screenplay workflow is for

You do not need a polished treatment or a screenplay draft. You can start with a clear premise, a short story paragraph, a set of characters, or an early concept that still needs structure. The intake asks for enough detail to guide the screenplay without pretending every creative decision has already been made.

This can be useful for first-time screenwriters who understand their story but have not written in screenplay format. It can also help directors and producers test a concept before committing to a longer development process, or give film students a concrete draft to study, question, and revise.

The supported project types make room for more than feature films. Creators can develop a short film, documentary, television episode, web series, limited series, vertical short, or vertical series. A vertical creator might use the workflow to turn a compact hook and recurring characters into a short-form script. An indie filmmaker might begin with a location-driven premise. A producer may want a screenplay draft that makes a concept easier to evaluate with a director, cast, or potential collaborator.

How to turn your story idea into a screenplay

The process is designed to separate purchasing from creative readiness. You do not have to submit a half-finished idea the moment you choose a plan.

  1. Choose an idea plan. Pick screenplay generation by itself or a plan that adds development and production outputs.
  2. Describe the project. Provide a working title, project type, primary genre, target runtime, tone, main characters, setting, and story idea.
  3. Add optional direction. You can include the intended audience, content rating, ending preference, required story elements, planned filming location, or other instructions when they matter.
  4. Review the saved intake. Your details remain editable until you decide they accurately describe the project.
  5. Mark the order ready. Once you mark it ready, the intake locks and processing begins.
  6. Receive one screenplay file. Every idea plan generates exactly one screenplay. Plans above Creator also include the listed services applied to that screenplay.

The review step matters. A generated draft can only work from the direction you provide, so it is worth checking character goals, setting, tone, runtime, and any ending requirements before locking the order. A specific creative brief gives the system better boundaries than a broad sentence such as "make a thriller."

Four plans for different stages of a project

FilmPilot.ai currently lists four one-time idea plans at limited-time launch prices. Every plan starts with one generated screenplay, while the higher tiers add services from FilmPilot.ai's development and pre-production toolkit.

Creator Plan: $99 launch price

Creator is the simplest route from an idea to a screenplay. It includes one screenplay generated from your story idea and no additional service bundle. This is the practical choice when you want the script first and plan to handle notes, visual development, or production planning separately.

Foundation Plan: $179

Foundation includes the generated screenplay plus foundational materials: a character image, script criticism and suggestions, the Screenplay Opening Scorecard, a movie poster concept, costume design concepts, and an automated location scout. It fits creators who want an initial screenplay and a compact set of feedback and visual references.

Development Plan: $299

Development expands the package into broader development and pre-production. Along with the screenplay and Foundation services, it includes suggested camera shots and angles, storyboards for all scenes, a budget estimate for a defined location, 20 simulated audience reviews, a production shoot schedule, a sales and festival strategy report, and daily call sheets.

This tier may suit short filmmakers, indie teams, directors, or producers who need more than a draft. It connects the screenplay to practical questions about how the project could look, what it may require, and how it might be organized.

Production Plan: $549

Production adds the widest set of current production and pitch materials. It includes one generated screenplay, the development and planning services listed above, a casting notice and character breakdown, 50 simulated audience reviews, a VFX Breakdown and Bid Solicitor, and a standard-model AI pilot video based on the first five screenplay pages.

This plan is aimed at creators who want advanced visual, pitch, and production preparation tied to the generated screenplay. The listed prices and inclusions can change, so check the live pricing page before ordering.

The screenplay-upload plans are still available

The idea workflow does not replace FilmPilot.ai's existing screenplay-upload workflow. If you already have a screenplay PDF, you can still choose an upload-based plan and use the script you wrote as the source for analysis and pre-production services.

The live lineup continues to include Starter, Indie, Producer, and the one-per-account Free Demo, along with the current Pre-Production option. The Free Demo remains a $0 way to receive script criticism and suggestions for only the first three pages of an uploaded screenplay. Starter, Indie, Pre-Production, and Producer add different combinations of feedback, visuals, scheduling, budgeting, audience simulation, pitch, and production services.

The distinction is simple. Start With an Idea is for a creator who does not yet have a screenplay. The upload plans are for a creator who does. Both routes connect to the same broader set of FilmPilot.ai services, but they begin with different source material.

Runtime and page count are guides, not guarantees

FilmPilot.ai uses the common screenwriting guideline that one properly formatted screenplay page is approximately one minute of screen time. Your requested runtime guides generation, but the final page count can vary with formatting, dialogue density, scene structure, and the needs of the story.

That qualification is especially important for vertical shorts and episodic projects. A 90-second vertical story, a ten-minute short, and a television episode have very different pacing demands. Choose the closest project type and give a realistic target length, then treat the generated screenplay as a draft to review rather than a final timing guarantee.

What AI can and cannot decide for your story

AI can turn structured project details into a screenplay draft and related planning materials. It cannot replace your judgment about whether the characters feel true, the premise says what you intended, the dialogue has the right voice, or the project deserves to move forward.

Read the screenplay closely. Check continuity, factual details, cultural context, character motivation, legal risks, and production assumptions. Revise anything that does not fit. Producers and directors should still validate budgets, locations, schedules, safety needs, rights, and department-specific decisions with qualified people before production.

Content restrictions also apply. FilmPilot.ai says projects work best at PG-13 or lower. The system may try to adapt mature scenes for use with AI services, but image and video models can restrict or refuse R-rated or more explicit material. You must also have the necessary rights or permissions for copyrighted or trademarked material you provide.

Delivery time varies by plan, project length, and system load. Most orders typically finish within about 30 minutes, but larger packages or busy periods may take longer. That is a typical timeframe, not a guaranteed deadline.

Start with the version of the story you have

A story does not have to arrive as a finished screenplay to be worth developing. A strong premise, a few characters, and a clear sense of tone can be enough to begin, as long as you are ready to review the result and keep making creative decisions.
